Ensuring Responsive Service Delivery for Persons with Special Needs and Problematic Sexual Behaviours

July 27 @ 8:45 am 10:45 am

Session Abstract

Persons with special needs often require accommodation. Although great strides have been made in caring for individuals who have sexually offended, generally, analogous services for persons with special needs (IDD, ASD, FASD, etc.) have lagged behind – in assessment, treatment, and risk management. In this presentation, we will identify groups in need of special consideration, discuss issues in providing responsive interventions, and highlight options for replacing problematic sexual behaviours with those that are healthier and, ultimately, less problematic. Participants will be encouraged to think more broadly and to leverage their creativity when developing and implementing services for clients with special needs.
